Area Facts: Allentown was originally named Northamptontown by state Supreme Court Judge William Allen in the mid-1700s, but came to be known popularly as “Allen’s Town” and eventually Allentown by the mid-1800s. The local area code for Allentown, Pennsylvania is 610.
